Development of the Chagoury Group
It was in 1971 that Gilbert Chagoury really started the process of building an industrial empire across West Africa. Following the development of Grands Moulins du Bénin Flour Mills in Cotonou with his father-in-law Nabih Chamchoum, Gilbert contracted the Chagoury Group's C & C Construction to build Ideal Flour Mills in Kaduna, northern Nigeria. These Mills began full operation in 1978 and were the first of our flour mills Gilbert was to develop in Nigeria.
At each stage of developing industrial, manufacturing or leisure aspects of the group, the emphasis has always been on how much existing companies within the group could contribute. This remains the ethos today. Creating, with his brother Ronald, a self-sufficient group structure, which is required to maintain its competitive edge, has enabled the Chagoury Group of companies to flourish.
The Chagoury Group has become one of the leading Africa based corporations in Nigeria, with manufacturing, construction, industrial, hotels and high technology companies, all part of the stable. Ensuring from the outset that the Group harnesses the talents of Nigerian workers and professionals, Gilbert Chagoury has attracted the loyalty of his Nigerian personnel, many of whom have been with the Group since its inception.
Today, the Chagoury Group is a leading Nigerian employer, with a workforce numbering tens of thousands of Nigerian and other African and international personnel.
