Economic Adviser to the President of Benin

Always maintaining his links with Africa, Gilbert Chagoury has strong ties with Benin, the country where he began his business journey, which was ultimately to become an industrial empire.

In 1996, Gilbert Chagoury was appointed the Economic Adviser to the President of Benin, Mathieu Kérékou.

Gilbert maintains the strong belief that with good leadership and governance, Africa's economic development is assured.

The Republic of Benin growth over the past six years has been higher than the G8 countries, maintaining around 5% increase in real output terms. Inflation has also declined and Benin's new policies are focused on attracting foreign investment, attracting tourism, developing food processing and agricultural product for home consumption as well as export and, importantly in this 21st century high-technology environment, developing communication technology.

Privatisation in line with World Bank and IMF ethos continues to develop in the areas of telecommunications, water, electricity and agriculture.

Gilbert Chagoury is committed to the long-term developmental goals of the Republic of Benin and was happy to play an advisory role in support of the Government's economic goals.
